Lung Cancer

Lung cancer occurs when cells in the lung grow abnormally and form tumors.  Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States.  Smoking causes the majority of lung cancer cases.  Early stages of lung cancer may not produce symptoms; however, early diagnosis and treatment is important to ensure the best outcome.  Lung cancer may be treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Tracheal Cancer

The trachea is commonly known as the windpipe. The trachea brings air from your mouth and nose to your lungs. Squamous cell carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma are the most frequent types of tracheal cancer. Tracheal cancer is usually cared for with surgery, radiotherapy, and palliative chemotherapy.

Mesothelioma

The mesothelium is a membrane that lines the chest and abdomen and surrounds the organs in these areas. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that most frequently is caused by asbestos exposure. When asbestos particles are inhaled, the asbestos fibers cannot be “coughed out” or removed by the lungs, which leads to an inflammatory response. In many cases, mesothelioma may not be found until the cancer has progressed.

Esophageal Cancer

When you swallow, food travels from your throat through the esophagus and to the stomach. The exact cause of esophageal cancer is unknown. However, it appears that long-term gastric acid reflux (GERD) may contribute to esophageal cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma are two types of esophageal cancer.
